Growth, Goals, and a Glimpse into the Future

Emphasizing Skills Development

In 2023 and 2024, TTR took a significant step forward in enhancing player development by prioritizing skills training led by our star coach, Sion Atkins. Coach Atkins has been instrumental in conducting skills clinics that have greatly benefited our players in Toronto. Additionally, our commitment to developing the sport extends to the youth as we actively field referees to local U14 games, helping nurture the next generation of touch rugby enthusiasts.

Winter League Success

Our 2023-2024 Winter League was a resounding success, with six enthusiastic teams—Razzle Dazzle, Tryceratops, Can't Touch This, Kiss Me Quickie, Lion Rock, and Beagles—competing fiercely every Sunday morning at Lamport Stadium. The league's competition level increased notably over the weeks, thanks to the exceptional organizational efforts of Devin Ireland, Megan Leung, and Alex Perna. Their dedication ensured that the league not only ran smoothly but also provided an engaging and competitive environment for all participants.

Spring and Summer Leagues: Raising the Bar

Looking ahead, TTR is excited to announce significant upgrades for our upcoming spring and summer leagues. We are moving to the picturesque Crescent School Innes Field, which will allow us to play on a regulation-sized pitch and enhance the quality of our matches. To align with our goals of competing at national and international levels, we're also expanding our referee program to include three referees per game and adhere to F.I.T. standards.

A special thank you to Rachael Atkins, who has graciously agreed to be our Head Spring League Referee, taking on the role of coaching our junior referees. Her expertise and dedication are invaluable as we strive to elevate our standard of play and prepare our players for higher levels of competition.

Free Pickup Games and Community Engagement

As we continue to foster growth and engagement within our community, TTR remains committed to offering free pickup games throughout the spring and summer. Keep an eye out for announcements regarding times and locations. These sessions are a fantastic opportunity for both new and returning players to enjoy the sport in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

Looking Forward

The journey of Toronto Touch Rugby is one of passion, resilience, and community. As we move forward, we remain dedicated to not only improving the skills of our players but also to contributing positively to the local sports community. We invite everyone, from seasoned players to newcomers, to join us in celebrating and growing the sport of touch rugby in Toronto.
